June Brighton & Hove Foodie Leaders

With nearly 2000 votes registered in the Brighton & Hove Foodie Awards since it was launched as part of the city’s spring food festival on 1 April, voting is up 25% on last year, according to organisers Natural PR.

Every second Friday of the month, the Foodie leaders – those who have received the most votes from the public so far – are announced on Juice FM by DJ Andrea Fox and food writer Andrew Kay from The Latest magazine, until voting closes in September. The final winners will be presented with their awards at the grand finale event of the September Brighton & Hove Food and Drink Festival.

In June, Terre a Terre has maintained its hold on the top spot, with Indian Summer standing up to stiff competition from newcomers, 24 St George’s, in second and third places respectively. The contrast in these three restaurants says it all about the wonderful choice of dining experience available in our city.

Best Food Pub: No change here from last month with The Prince George and The Ginger Pig fighting fiercely for the first and second places, with the Prince George remaining in top position by the tiniest of margins. The Basketmakers still has third place but needs to be looking carefully at the competition coming up behind, only a handful of votes now separate the next five food pubs! Get voting for your favourite and it may all have changed by July!

Best Café: Supporters of Iydea have been busy again this month and this North Laine-based café is still leading the way. But Cloud 9 is not giving up the fight and stays close on Iydea’s heels in second place. New in third place is Metrodeco, which has come racing up the leader board in the last four weeks.

Best Food Shop: No change in this category – the wonderful Infinity Foods is still managing to hold its lead, the brilliant Taj is in second place, followed by the scrumptious Real Patisserie. But the margin between them has narrowed with both second and third places more than doubling their share of the vote this month.

“The huge numbers of people who have voted in the first two months have confirmed that the Foodie Awards are something to shout about – we want to thank everyone who has voted and all the food outlets which are so enthusiastically taking part. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our city’s great food offer together,” said Paula Seager, MD of Natural PR, which runs the awards.

“But we want to urge everyone to keep it up - food outlet owners please keep encouraging your customers to vote for you and come on people who live in Brighton & Hove, you must have a favourite restaurant, food pub, café and food shop, so please vote now!”
